OBU Bison Blast Tournament Recap

SHAWNEE, Okla. – SWOSU Volleyball competed at the Oklahoma Baptist Bison Blast in the second non-conference tournament of the season on Friday and Saturday and came away with two wins in three matches.

SWOSU split Friday's pair of games with a win over McKendree and a five-set loss to UT-Tyler. They recovered Saturday with a beatdown of Cameron to conclude their time in Shawnee.

The results push SWOSU's record to an even 3-3 on the year heading into the GAC/MIAA Crossover next Thursday (9/19) and Friday (9/20) held in the OKC metro.

Game One – 9/13
SWOSU 3, McKendree (IL) 1
(25-15, 25-22, 18-25, 25-22)

A season high 18 kills from Lacy Mott helped lift SWOSU past the Bearcats in game one. After handling McKendree with ease in set one, the two teams played closer sets the rest of the way.

MU took the third set, but the Dawgs were able to close things out in the fourth. The score was knotted at 16-16 in that final set with the Bearcats trying to force a deciding fifth, but SWOSU pieced together back-to-back points on three occasions to inch out in front and win it.

The offense hit .236 for the match and held McKendree to .156 which included a negative mark in the opening set. Mott hit .333 herself and added 10 digs for a double-double. Jada Permenter ended with a season high 23 digs.

Game Two – 9/13
UT-Tyler 3, SWOSU 2
(15-25, 25-16, 25-27, 25-18, 16-18)

The Dawgs had the Patriots on the ropes in the second game on Friday with set point at 14-13 in the fifth set but could not close UTT out and went on to fall 18-16 in the loss.

SWOSU had success at the net with a season high in blocks but were plagued by a season worst 12 service errors that hindered them, alongside 20 hitting errors. The net presence forced UT-Tyler into 33 errors and into hitting just .154, but it could not get translated to a win.

UT-Tyler won the first set of the match and the teams trades set victories from there until the end. Both sides claimed a decisive win in their first set victories, before things tightened up for good from there.

Lacy Mott (.250) added another 15 kills to lead the offense. Taryn Galt (.320) had another 10. Samantha Kuzma was in on five assisted blocks in the contest.

Game Three – 9/14
SWOSU 3, Cameron 0
25-11, 25-15, 25-14

The result was never in question against the Aggies. SWOSU held Cameron to under 15 points in all three sets and under .100 hitting in two of the three. Meanwhile, the Dawgs hit a season high .316 including a blistering .458 in the opening set.

Lacy Mott (.476) had another double-double with a team high 11 kills and 10 digs. Samantha Kuzma (.643) had 10 kills of her own. Terez Chavez tallied 10 digs to match Mott.
