WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Soccer notched a physical 1-0 win over Pitt State on Saturday in the final non-conference match of the season.
The Bulldogs used a penalty kick in the 44th minute to break the tie and defended three PSU shots on goal in the second half to earn the win. For a second time this season, Julie Andersen had her name called to take the successful penalty kick.
The chance came following a foul on Riley Massey in the box. Andersen stepped up and netted her team-leading second goal of the season just before halftime.
Pitt State took three shots on goal in the second half, but Allie Vasquez spoiled all of them to earn her first clean sheet on the year. Final numbers showed the Dawgs with a slight edge in shots, 12-11, and corner kicks, 4-3.
The teams combined for 20 fouls in the contest and each had two yellow cards.
After starting the season with four of the first six games at home, SWOSU (2-3-1) will play the next four GAC matches away from Weatherford. Next week will begin with a trip to face Oklahoma Baptist on Wednesday before closing out the week against Southern Nazarene on Saturday.
