Late Bison Goal Spoils GAC Opener at Oklahoma Baptist

SHAWNEE, Okla. – SWOSU Soccer jumped out to an early lead over Oklahoma Baptist but could not keep pace with the Bison who scored three times, twice in the second half, in a 3-2 defeat on Wednesday night.

Hannah Guiterrez began the scoring in the 16th minute. SWOSU's lead didn't last though, as OBU answered just two minutes later to knot the game back up at 1-1. Both sides were held without a goal for the rest of the first half.

After halftime, the Bison jumped ahead with a goal in the 63rd minute. With less than eight minutes to play, Katy Wieters seemed to have netted a timely equalizer – but OBU once again one-upped the Dawgs with the game winner three minutes later.

All of SWOSU's goal contributions were firsts of the season and they now have have six different goal scorers on the year. Guiterrez and Wieters both scored their first goals, while assists came courtesy of Madelyn Kitchen and Summer Bass – also their first.

Both sides took 18 shots in the game and had two corner kicks. OBU had the advantage with 11 of those shots on goal including their three goals. SWOSU had five SOG.

SWOSU (2-4-1, 0-1 GAC) will battle Southern Nazarene on Saturday in Bethany looking to get back even on the week.
