Fort Hays State Tops Bulldogs with Pair of Second Half Goals

WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Soccer had their chances, especially early, against Fort Hays State on Thursday in more non-conference action but fell 2-0 after the visiting Tigers netted two second half goals to hand the Bulldogs a loss.

The result pushes SWOSU's record to 1-3-1 heading into the final non-con game of the season, at home against Pitt State at 11:00 am.

On Thursday, the Dawgs threatened routinely in the first half but could not cash in on opportunities – especially corner kicks. SWOSU put five shots on goal in the first half but the FHSU goalie made continual plays to keep the score at zero.

After halftime, the Tigers finally capitalized. They broke the tie in the 53rd minute and extended the lead in the 74th. FHSU's goalie ended with nine saves in the match. It's the most saves they've had to make all season.

After four corner kicks in the first 45 minutes, the Dawgs did not manage another. Final shot numbers showed SWOSU with a slight edge, 14-12.  Fort Hays had four shots on goal. Both taken in the second half found the net.
