ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – SWOSU Softball split with Henderson State on Friday, setting up a winner-take-all rubber match on Saturday where one of the teams will clinch the eighth and final postseason spot on the final day of the regular season. The Dawgs beat the Reddies 4-1 in the opener before falling 9-2 in game two.
Game three begins at noon on Saturday at Dee White Field.
Game One – SWOSU 4, HSU 1
The Dawgs scored single runs in the first and fifth innings and got a two-RBI double from Katie Boline in the third which provided starting pitcher Courtney Hill more than enough run support to get the win.
Hill surrendered just two hits and one run in a quality start in the circle. She pitched around six walks and did not allow any of those free passes to score. The lone Reddie run came from a solo home run to lead off the second inning.
Boline drove in three of the four runs in the game and was 2-4 at the plate. Jadyn Hook, 2-3, singled twice and walked and represented two of SWOSU's four runs to cross.
Game Two – HSU 9, SWOSU 2
The offense did not threaten much in the contest aside from a two-run fourth that saw the Dawgs collect three of their six hits in the game. Blaire Gentry delivered a two-RBI go-ahead single with two outs which, at the time, put SWOSU up 2-1 before the Reddies proceeded to score eight unanswered runs in the next three frames to get the win.
HSU doubled the Bulldogs with 12 hits. Maddie Rahon finished 2-3 with a double.
Gentry, who also pitched, suffered the loss in a complete game effort.
