ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – SWOSU Softball led Henderson State 1-0 through the first three innings until a pair of big Reddie innings in the fourth and fifth spoiled the chances of a series victory. The Bulldogs fell 7-1, allowing HSU to snatch the final postseason spot away from the Bulldogs in the process.
The Dawgs used two hits in the first inning to plate the game's first run. It was a great start, but the offense managed just one hit the rest of the way.
In the circle, Courtney Hill held the Reddies scoreless through three before they finally broke through with four runs in the fourth and another three in the fifth. A three RBI double gave the Reddies the lead and an error let the fourth run cross. With the score 4-1, HSU had an inside the park home run give them another three runs an inning later.
After scoring a run in the first inning, SWOSU went three-up and three-down in four of the next six frames while the Reddies built their lead.
Hits in the game came from Jadyn Hook and Chesnie Hewitt in the first, and Blaire Gentry in the fourth – all singles. Gentry also pitched a scoreless sixth inning in relief.
SWOSU ends the season with a four-win improvement in both total wins and conference wins in comparison to 2023. The Bulldogs lose five seniors from the 2024 roster.
