MONTICELLO, Ark. – SWOSU Baseball fell to Arkansas Monticello 6-0 in the final game of the series on Saturday in a game cut short due to weather.
In attempts to dodge rain, the game time was moved up to 10 am but that move was still unable to prevent delays. The game was eventually called due to lightning in the fifth inning.
Because the Bulldogs batted five times and trailed when the game entered its final delay in the bottom of the fifth, it was officially counted as a contest.
SWOSU managed just one hit in the game off the bat of Geoff Marlow while a five-run third inning and a solo home run in the fourth put the Weevils in control prior to the stoppage.
Zane Leonard, with the start on the mound, was handed the loss after allowing those first five runs. Josh Rains threw the next two innings, Jackson Blue was on the mound in the fifth when the game was called.
Four home games remain on the regular season schedule. SWOSU hosts Cameron on Tuesday in midweek action before welcoming Northwestern Oklahoma State to town next weekend. Saturday (April 27) will be Senior Day for the Dawgs on the final day of the season.
