WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Baseball defeated Cameron 12-8 in the last non-conference game of the season on Tuesday afternoon. The Dawgs took advantage of multiple self-inflicted errors by the Aggies and scored in five-straight innings for the win.
SWOSU will stay at home this weekend for their final regular season series. They host rival Northwestern Oklahoma State for three games, beginning on April 26 at 2 pm.
After Cameron tied the game in the fifth inning, SWOSU put up five scores across the next three innings to pull away.
Eric Foufoulas launched a sacrifice fly to score
Markus Coronado to put SWOSU back on top in the bottom of the fifth.
Ty Eastwood grounded out to bring in
Marco Barrera, who was on third due to an Aggie error. Two more errors from the visitors put three more Bulldog runs on the scoreboard and extended the lead too far for a comeback.
Six errors proved too detrimental to overcome for Cameron. Five of them directly scored SWOSU runs or moved runners into scoring position for the Bulldog hitters to knock them in. The first inning saw SWOSU score on no hits from the first CU error of the game. Another error in the fourth got
Ty Eastwood to second and
Geoff Marlow's double scored him.
Cameron notched half their runs in the second inning off back-to-back home runs. The next inning, they got out to their largest lead at 6-1 and were in control. The rotation of arms out of the SWOSU bullpen came in and steadied the ship. They collectively allowed two runs over the final six innings, giving the offense room to chip away at the Aggie lead.
Ernesto Hidrogo (W, 3-2) lasted the longest on the mound for SWOSU. He got the win in 2.2 innings, only allowing two hits.
Sawyer Rolland threw a solid 2.1 innings before him.
The SWOSU offense then went on their slew of five straight scoring innings to support them. Two runs came in the third on three extra-base hits and a big four-run fourth inning, all with two outs, gave SWOSU the lead back at 7-6.
Barrera, Coronado, and
Geoff Marlow all tallied three hits, with Barrera and Marlow driving in two runs apiece.
Ty Eastwood batted 2-4 and had a team high three RBIs.
