ADA, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball used a five-run eighth inning to invoke the 10-run rule over East Central in game one of the series, eventually winning 12-2 over the Tigers on Saturday.
The win moves the Dawgs to 14-7 overall on the year and 6-4 in conference play and pushes their win streak to four heading into Sunday's doubleheader.
The offense provided plenty of run support for starting pitcher
Rece Parker on the day. Parker, in a return to the mound after missing last week, threw 6.0 innings to earn the win. He struck out seven, walked two, and scattered five hits.
Ernesto Hidrogo was handed the ball in the seventh and threw two hitless innings of relief.
At the plate, the day's scoring started in the third inning courtesy of a
Marco Barrera two-run home run. The Dawgs got three more an inning later which included RBI singles from
Markus Coronado and
Sean Monsour.
Single runs in the fifth and six pushed the margin to 7-0.
Jackson Syring tripled in a run in the sixth inning – his third triple of the year.
ECU finally broke the seal with two runs in the sixth before SWOSU used a four-hit eighth to plate five runs and get the game into run-rule territory.
Aside from Barrera and Syring's extra-base hits,
Geoff Marlow doubled twice. Five Bulldogs had two hits in the lineup and the team finished with 13 in the game. Barrera and Coronado combined for six RBI on the afternoon.
Due to rain in the Ada area, the series was shifted Saturday morning to accommodate field conditions. The doubleheader portion of the series against ECU is set to get underway at noon on Sunday to close out the series.
