BETHANY, Okla. – SWOSU softball concluded their series against Southern Nazarene in a doubleheader Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs fell in both games, 9-8 and 11-3.
SWOSU drops to 12-21 and 8-12 in their GAC slate. They host a midweek doubleheader against Cameron on Tuesday beginning at 2 pm.
Game One – SNU 9, SWOSU 8
The Bulldogs fell victim to a two out, seventh inning walk off home run in the day's first game. The walk off came a half inning after SWOSU tied things up in their half of the seventh.
SWOSU walked eight times and stranded 14 on base in the game.
The Dawgs scored four runs in the sixth for their first lead since the opening inning.
Maddie Rahon and
Katie Boline both singled to start the inning. The Storm eventually walked in three runs with the bases loaded before
Jadyn Hook singled the go-ahead run which gave the visiting Dawgs a 7-6 lead.
That lead didn't last after SNU hit a two-run home run in the next half inning before the seventh inning drama unfolded.
Hook also homered to start the game's scoring off in the first. She finished 2-4 with a pair of runs scored and two RBI.
Blaire Gentry (L, 8-10) pitched the entire way. She struck out three, walked only two, but surrendered 14 hits.
Four SNU pitchers threw in the game.
Game Two – SNU 11, SWOSU 3 (5 inn.)
The second game of the day came in only five innings. The second inning saw a combined nine of the 14 runs scored in the game.
SWOSU put up three early thanks to some timely base hits and running, but their offense stalled from then on. One Bulldog batter reached base from the third to the fifth inning in the shortened game.
Southern Nazarene scored in every frame but the third, including a six spot in the bottom of the second to respond to SWOSU's three the half inning earlier. All nine Crimson Storm players saw the plate in that inning to put them up 7-3.
Two runs from the home team in the fourth and the fifth ballooned the deficit to run rule territory.
Jadyn Hook continued her hot streak at the plate, batting 2-2 with an RBI.
Chesnie Hewitt was also 2-2 with an RBI and a run scored.
Courtney Hill (L, 3-9) pitched 4.0 innings before being relieved by
Lauren Bratcher.
