ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – SWOSU Hoops led by eight points at halftime but fell victim to a hot-shooting Ouachita squad in the second half in a 77-66 road loss.
The Tigers knocked down 15 of their first 19 shots (79%) in the second half which included 5-of-6 from the three-point line. After trailing 37-29 at halftime, Ouachita overtook the Dawgs on the scoreboard with 11:35 to play and did not relinquish the lead from there. An 11-1 Tiger run in three minutes of game time erased a nine-point SWOSU lead and turned the tides for good.
SWOSU's first half success was hindered after the break. They shot nearly 52% from the field in the first half and 4-of-10 from deep to build the early lead. Those numbers fell after the intermission as the Dawgs did not connect on a three pointer and made seven less baskets in the game's final 20 minutes.
Mark Berry had himself a night. He finished with a career high 20 points on 9-of-10 shooting to lead the offense and he notched his sixth double-double of the year by grabbing 11 rebounds.
Jalen Johnson led the offense in the first half with 13 points but was 0-of-5 in the second and finished with 14. Ben Smith added 13.
The Dawgs move to 7-8 in GAC play and will remain in Arkadelphia where they'll face Henderson State across the street on Saturday. Tipoff for that game is set for 3:00 pm.
