Softball Finishes Off Tigers for Series Sweep on GAC’s Opening Weekend

WEATHERFORD – For the first time competing in the Great American Conference, SWOSU Softball swept the opening week of conference play after securing a 10-2 victory over Ouachita on Saturday in the final game of the series. It's SWOSU's second straight run-rule victory where they ended things after five innings.

Lauren Bratcher got the start the circle in game three, representing SWOSU's third different starting arm of the weekend. She threw a complete game, allowed no big innings, struck out six and walked three to earn her first win of the season.

Meanwhile, as Bratcher kept Ouachita at bay, the offense continued its hot streak with yet another double-digit hit performance. They tallied 12, highlighted by a triple and home run from Dani Carmo and a trio of doubles from Jadyn Hook, Katie Boline, and Jordyn Wadley.

An RBI single in the second inning from Rebeca Fajardo began the day's scoring. SWOSU got one run in the second before erupting for five more in the third.

Ouachita answered Fajardo's RBI with a run-scoring double of their own the next half inning, but the Dawgs came right back with four extra-base hits in the third to plate five runs and grab a 6-1 lead.

Three more runs came an inning later courtesy of an RBI groundout from Wadley and finally Carmo's long ball – her first of the year.

Maddie Rahon invoked the eight-run rule in the fifth on a two-out RBI single that allowed Chesnie Hewitt to score from third after she bunted to get on previously. The hit capped off her 3-4 day at the plate.

Batters one through four in the lineup combined for nine of the 12 Bulldog hits in the game.

SWOSU, now 6-8 overall and 3-0 in conference play, will hit the road next weekend for a road series against Southeastern. Game one in Durant starts Friday (3/1) before the doubleheader commences a day later Saturday, March 2.
