Softball Drops Two vs (RV) Lions & No. 11 Bronchos

WEATHERFORD – SWOSU finished up the Raising Canes Softball Festival on Sunday with two games against stiff MIAA competition. The Bulldogs got edged late against (RV) Missouri Southern before falling to No. 11 Central Oklahoma in a shortened game.

Looking ahead, SWOSU will now prepare to begin Great American Conference play next weekend which also aligns with their home opener. SWOSU hosts Ouachita Friday (2/23) and Saturday (2/24) in a three-game GAC series.

Game One – (RV) MSSU 5, SWOSU 2

The Bulldogs led Missouri Southern 2-1 entering the sixth inning until the Lions plated four to take the lead one final time.

SWOSU had gained the lead in the third inning with RBIs from Maddie Rahon and Katie Boline. It came in response to a lone MSSU run in the first.

Blaire Gentry (L, 3-5) suffered the loss in the circle. Two of SWOSU's three hits in the game went for extra bases, courtesy of Rahon and Rebeca Fajardo. Gentry had limited the Lions to just two hits through five innings until they exploded for six hits in the sixth to take the lead. MSSU finished with eight in the game.

Game Two – #11 UCO 9, SWOSU 1 (6 inn.)

UCO scored in every inning but the second and had three long balls and another four doubles to roll the Bulldogs in the nightcap.

SWOSU's lone run came in the third inning after Chesnie Hewitt doubled and Maddie Rahon drove her in with an RBI single. At the time, it cut SWOSU's deficit to 2-1.

Courtney Hill (L, 0-2) threw the game's first three innings before giving way to Cierah Jones for the final 2.1 innings in relief.
