SWOSU Hoops enters the second portion of the season with the start of Great American Conference play set to commence this week inside the Pioneer Event Center. The Bulldogs will host Harding on Thursday night at 7:30 pm before wrapping up the week on Saturday against Arkansas Tech at 3:00 pm.
SWOSU, sitting at 3-2 overall, played twice at home in non-conference action and was a perfect 2-0 against the likes of Oklahoma Christian and Central Oklahoma. The Dawgs will be looking forward to moving past their most recent result during the week of Thanksgiving – a 91-60 blowout road loss to Cameron.
The team is currently scoring 68.2 points per game and shooting 41% from the field. SWOSU opponents have averaged 72.8 points and 48% from the field. From beyond the arc, SWOSU is shooting just 27% but has been good defensively, limiting foes to 33%.
Tobias Roland has been SWOSU's scoring leader. He ranks eighth around the league, currently averaging 17.6 points per game while his 60% field goal percentage is ninth. Roland has gotten to the foul line 31 times – fourth most in the GAC – and is knocking them down at nearly an 84% clip.
Eli Al-Debaran is another double-digit scorer, averaging 13.6 ppg good for 15th in the GAC. He's connected on a team high 12 three-point shots, shooting 40% from deep.
MJ Warrior (10.4 ppg) has accumulated a team leading 28 assists in five games which ranks second in the league. His 1.8 steals per game is 12th.
Harding comes to Weatherford 4-2, averaging 86.3 points per game and shooting nearly 50% from the field. They're led by Rylie Marshall (17.7 ppg) – this week's GAC Player of the Week – and Keyln McBride (15.3 ppg). HU has made the third most three-pointers and second most foul shots of any team in the league entering Thursday. They have struggled in the rebounding department, averaging a league low 27.3 per game. The Bisons were picked fifth in this year's GAC preseason poll.
Arkansas Tech will take on Northwestern on Thursday before venturing to face SWOSU on Saturday. Tech was tabbed the preseason favorite, after finishing last season a co-regular season champ and as the winner of the GAC Tournament. The Wonder Boys are led by Cassius Brooks (19.3 ppg) and Kade Shaffer (10.3 ppg). As a team they are shooting 44% from the floor and holding opponents to the exact same mark. They've been stingy on defense, holding opponents to under 67 points per contest.Â
