SHAWNEE, Okla. – SWOSU Volleyball went the distance with Oklahoma Baptist for a second time this year and came away with the win in a five-set thriller inside the Noble Complex.
The win gives head coach Josh Collins the 200th of his career and snaps a 10-game losing streak to the Bison in Shawnee.
It was all Lacy Mott (.406) on Monday. The senior finished with a career high 30 kills and added 18 digs for a double-double. 30 kills represents the highest total in the conference this season, and she had just four errors on the night.
Mott had nine kills in the first set and another seven in the second to help SWOSU jump out to a 2-0 lead in the match. Though they led, things were tight early. The Bulldogs pulled out set wins of 25-23 and 29-27 in two frames that had a combined 14 ties and seven lead changes.
Oklahoma Baptist's offense came alive in the third and fourth where they hit over .300 in both frames to knot the match up and force the deciding fifth. After a runaway victory in the third, the Bison edged out a 25-23 set of their own to go the distance with the Dawgs for a second time this season.
In the fifth, it was all Bulldogs thanks to another six kills on seven attempts from Mott and a combined five kills from Taryn Galt and Paris Patterson.
SWOSU hit .229 in the match which included a blistering .500 mark in the final fifth. OBU finished at .196 on the night.
Aside from Mott, Patterson (.300) gave the Dawgs a solid 12-kill performance. Jada Permenter finished with a match high 28 digs to the lead all players. SWOSU's block finished with 11 on the night led by Samantha Kuzma who was in on four of those.
SWOSU moves to 17-7 on the year and 12-1 in the GAC with three matches remaining. The week concludes Thursday (Nov. 7) against East Central where the Bulldogs will look to avenge a previous loss to the Tigers which came days after beating OBU back in September. A win would secure the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament.
Collins, a two-time GAC Coach of the Year, has averaged more than 15 wins per season in his 13-year coaching career at SWOSU and hasn't had fewer than that mark in a full fall season since 2017.
