WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Lacy Mott became the first player in program history to be named an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II National Player of the Week, announced Tuesday by the organization.
The announcement comes on the heels of quite the week for Mott, who had a career high 30 kills in a win against Oklahoma Baptist on Monday before eclipsing the 1,500 career kills milestone with 20 more against East Central on Thursday. She hit .398 on the week with just nine errors in 103 total attacks.
Mott joins Carly Zak (2013-16) as the only other player in program history to have surpassed the milestone. Zak ranks atop the list with 1,662 kills, while Mott has a minimum of three games remaining to add onto her current 1,502 number.
With two games remaining in the regular season, Mott ranks first in the GAC in kills (4.12) and points (4.66) per set and is the only player who is averaging greater than four kills per set. Her .317 season hitting percentage ranks sixth, holding the highest percentage of any outside hitter.
Mott's performance against ECU helped lift the Dawgs to at least a share of a regular season conference championship. They can claim the title outright with one win in the final two games. The first chance for that feat comes Tuesday night, at home on Senior Night against Northwestern.
