WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Soccer exploded for a season-high three goals in Wednesday's home conference opener, defeating East Central 3-1.
The victory improved the Bulldogs' overall record to 4-6-1 and 2-3 in Great American Conference play.
Savanna Clark opened the scoring with her first goal of the season in the 12th minute. Philippine de Sancy doubled the lead in the 23rd minute, thanks to a well-executed sequence from Hannah Guiterrez and Julie Andersen. De Sancy's goal proved to be the game-winner. SWOSU took a 2-0 advantage into halftime.
East Central narrowed the deficit in the 63rd minute, with Averi Ferguson scoring off a Paige Jones assist. However, SWOSU regained its two-goal cushion in the 83rd minute, as Katy Wieters scored her second goal of the season, assisted by Ruth Vasquez.
Guiterrez paced the Bulldogs with eight shots, six on goal, and added an assist. Terra Rybuck made five saves in a 90-minute effort.
SWOSU maintained consistent pressure, totaling 22 shots (14 on goal), while limiting East Central to 11 shots (six on goal).
The match marked the only action of the week for the Bulldogs. SWOSU returns to action next Wednesday, October 16, with a road conference matchup against Northwestern.
