WEATHERFORD – The Bulldogs were able to avenge a previous loss to Ouachita Baptist with a 2-1 victory on Thursday thanks to goals from both Natalie Freeman and Anna Bager.
This win improves SWOSU's record to 5-7-3 overall and 3-4-2 in Great American Conference play. More importantly, it gives the Dawgs a much needed win for playoff hopes now with three matches remaining in the regular season.
Natalie Freeman got the Dawgs on the board first in the 12th minute with a great sequence that ended with assists from both Philippine De Sancy and Savanna Clark.
The Tigers ended with more shots than SWOSU (8-7) but the score was 1-0 at halftime in favor of the Bulldogs thanks to three great saves from Allie Vasquez.
In the second half, Ouachita responded with an equalizer after a corner kick led to a great opportunity to even the game up which they capitalized on. Bager responded with the game winner less than two minutes later with an unassisted strike to the top right corner from far outside the box that went over the outreached arms of the OBU keeper to push the Dawgs ahead for good. The ball came to her from an errant kick from the opposing keeper and she did the rest.
SWOSU ended up outshooting the Tigers 21-13 led by De Sancy's six, while Freeman and Katrine Ladegaard both added four of their own including a shot on goal. Vasquez ended with four saves in the game.
The Bulldogs will now look to complete the series sweep of Harding when they host the Lady Bisons on Saturday, November 2nd at 11:00 am for Senior Day at the SWOSU Athletic Complex.
