Bulldogs Settle In, Beat Southeastern Behind Mott’s Night

WEATHERFORD – Behind a 24-kill, 25-dig performance from Lacy Mott, and another 24 combined kills from Paris Patterson and Hailey Smith, SWOSU Volleyball shook off its opening set loss and beat Southeastern 3-1 on Thursday night inside the Pioneer Event Center.

Mott's night was tremendous. She tied the school record for kills in a four-set match and added 25 digs for a crispy double-double. She ended one dig, and two kills shy of tying her career high in both and she did it in four sets.

Patterson's 14 kills set a season high for her. 13 of those came in the first three sets. Coming into the week, Smith (10) had reached double-digit kills just once. She did it in back-to-back contests this week.

Three finished with 25 digs on the night, thanks to a career high from Terez Chavez and another 20-plus dig effort from Jada Permenter – her fourth of the season. SWOSU forced Southeastern into 180 total attempts on offense, the most of any four-set match so far in 2024.

After dropping set one 25-22, SWOSU and Southeastern had just four lead changes the rest of the match and none of those came past the middle part of a set. Trailing 14-11 with Southeastern desperate at the chance to push the match to five sets, SWOSU rattled off seven points in a row to step on them for good.

Mott's kill totals, by set, were a consistent 7-5-6-6 and she ended the night with 11 digs in the final frame.

Maddie Clark, in her second conference appearance of the season, added eight kills on an efficient .333 hitting.

The result wraps up week two of the GAC season. SWOSU plays again next Monday, October 7 on the road against Southern Nazarene. They'll close out the week back home against Southern Arkansas and Arkansas-Monticello on Thursday and Friday.
