WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Freya Sala claimed the individual title at the highly competitive Midwestern State Women's Invitational, shooting one over par across three rounds. Her standout performance highlighted the SWOSU women's golf team's fifth-place finish.
In the tournament, which featured four teams ranked in the top-25, No. 3 Odessa College (TX) took home the team title with a +35 overall score. No. 11 West Texas A&M and No. 11 St. Mary's (TX) shared second place, just one shot off the lead.
Sala secured the individual win after a one-hole playoff against Midwestern State's Alli Reily. She finished at +1 after three rounds, with her best round being -2 (70) with six birdies in round two. Sala dominated the par 3's, averaging 2.75 – the best in the tournament. After a bogey on her first par three, she shot par or better on the next 11.
Drew Dodgion led the Dawgs after round one, shooting an even par 72 with five birdies. She had 11 bogeys across three rounds, tied for eighth-least among the 76 golfers. Dodgion finished T-6 in average score on par 4s (4.27).
Ashlyn Acosta had her best showing in the final round, shooting +4 (76) with three birdies. She eagled a par five in both rounds one and two, one of only two golfers with multiple eagles in the tournament.
Lucia Rivas improved each round (84-81-79), sinking a birdie per day and an eagle in round two. She ranked top 5 in average par 3 score (3.08). SWOSU finished second in average par 3 score (3.23).
London Wilson (96-83-82) settled in after round one with a pair of low 80s in rounds two and three and she too followed Rivas' trend of improved scores throughout.
The Lady Bulldogs compete in their final tournament before the fall season concludes at the Tulsa Cup hosted by Rogers State, at Forest Ridge G.C. in Broken Arrow, Okla. on October 28-29.
