WEATHERFORD – SWOSU Volleyball controlled much of the match in a 3-1 victory over Southern Arkansas on Thursday night.
With the win, SWOSU improves to 9-6 overall and 5-1 in Great American Conference play, extending their winning streak to four games.
SWOSU claimed sets 1, 2, and 4. The first set was closely contested early on, with six ties and two lead changes. However, the Dawgs pulled away in the middle stage and never looked back. There were no ties or lead changes from set two on by either team.
Lacy Mott recorded nine kills in the second set to help SWOSU take command of the match.
Southern Arkansas managed to regroup and take the third set 25-21, but SWOSU rebounded in the fourth, cruising to a 25-12 victory. The Dawgs hit a match-best .455 in the final set, sealing the victory. For the match, SWOSU hit .256 and limited SAU to .119. The Muleriders had 27 errors to 17 from the Bulldogs.
Mott (.463) led the charge with 22 kills and needed just 41 attempts to get them. Samantha Kuzma added 11 kills and 7 blocks. Hailey Smith chipped in with 10 kills, Terez Chavez recorded 26 assists, and Jada Permenter matched Mott's dig count of 19.
The Dawgs return to action tomorrow, hosting Arkansas-Monticello at 4 p.m. in Weatherford.
