SWOSU Set for Road Matchup with Arkansas Tech

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – SWOSU Football looks to even its record this Saturday when they travel to face Arkansas Tech for the first of two consecutive road games.

The Bulldogs (2-3) are bouncing back from a tough 57-3 loss to defending national champions Harding last week. Despite the setback, SWOSU extended its streak of games with at least one defensive turnover, recovering a fumble in the fourth quarter. Through five games, they've achieved this feat in every contest and had at least three turnovers in each of the first four games, ranking them tied for second nationally in turnovers gained. The Dawgs boast a +5 turnover margin, forcing 15 turnovers while committing 10.

Kai Kunz was limited to 60 rushing yards against Harding but remains tied for the GAC lead, averaging 82.2 yards per game from his quarterback spot. His seven rushing touchdowns rank second in the league. Logan Monroe added 10 tackles against the Bisons, bringing his season total to 45 – good for fourth in the GAC.

SWOSU aims to spoil Tech's homecoming and break a four-game losing streak against the Wonder Boys that dates back to 2019. The Bulldogs' past four losses to Tech have been heartbreakingly close, with final scores of 36-35, 15-14, 22-21, and 9-7 last year. ATU has kicked a go-ahead field goal in the final seconds of each of the last three matchups.

Arkansas Tech boasts the GAC's third-best defense, allowing just 275.2 total yards per game. They've stifled opponents' rushing attacks, limiting them to 101 yards per game and 3.2 yards per carry, both ranking third in the GAC. Through the air, they surrender 174.2 yards per contest, ranking sixth. The Wonder Boys have notched 12 sacks (third in the GAC) and seven takeaways (five interceptions, two fumble recoveries) through five games.

On offense, Tech relies on receivers Caleb Tanis and Joyrion Chase, who lead the GAC with 76.6 and 56.4 yards per game, respectively. The duo has combined for three touchdown receptions this season and are two of five players on the team with at least one touchdown catch. Quarterback Ethan Everson has thrown just two interceptions in 99 attempts, both coming against SNU on September 14.
