ALVA, Okla. – SWOSU Volleyball trailed 2-0 in Alva before rattling off three consecutive set victories to knock off Northwestern. The result snapped a six-game Ranger win streak.

The Bulldogs (6-6, 2-1 GAC) fell behind early with a pair of tight sets that didn't go their way despite similar numbers on the stat sheet. From the third set on, it was nearly all Bulldogs.

Sets three and five were won handily. In the fourth, holding a slim 15-14 lead, the Dawgs produced a 7-0 scoring run to provide plenty of breathing room to force the fifth.

Though the offense increased its efficiency after that second set, it was the defense that propelled SWOSU to the comeback. The Bulldogs held Northwestern to just 20 kills, while forcing them to commit 20 errors on a combined 88 attempts in sets three through five. The home side hit .034 in the third set and did not finish with a positive number from there with a frame in the negatives and a fifth at exactly zeros.

Meanwhile, SWOSU's block was as strong as it's been all year after ending the match with 13.5 blocks – a season high – including four in that fifth set to help seal the deal.

Contributions came from everywhere in the win. Six got in at least two blocks and three of those had a solo effort. Five had at least one ace. Four finished with double figure kill totals.

Final numbers had SWOSU hitting .242 in the match, including an incredible .667 in the final fifth frame, compared to .090 from NWOSU.

All three of SWOSU's conference matches so far have gone to five sets. They will close out the week at home on Thursday when they play host to Southeastern. First serve is set at the regularly scheduled 6:00 pm time slot.
