Bulldogs Suffer First GAC Loss vs Oklahoma Baptist

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Soccer suffered its first loss of the conference schedule on Saturday afternoon out at the Athletic Complex in a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Oklahoma Baptist.

It's the first conference loss since October 16, 2021, snapping a 19-match streak without a defeat. The Bulldogs continue to search for the first win of the season, moving to 0-6-2 overall and 0-1-1 in GAC play.

The Bison got on the board early and held on the rest of the way. They passed their way into the right side of the box and found an opening to kick a line drive to the upper left portion of the goal. The ball was placed too well to warrant a save, flying past the outreached arms of goalkeeper Amelia Forsling.

It was 1-0 Oklahoma Baptist 10 minutes into the match and that's where it stayed.

SWOSU nearly tied things up late just as they did Thursday against Northwestern when Micaella Swain got a cross away and found Natalie Freeman near the goal. Freeman's knee connected with the ball, but it was hit directly into the left post and bounced into the keeper's hands to eliminate the threat.

Final numbers showed Oklahoma Baptist with the advantage on offense. They tallied 16 total shots, eight in each half, and put 10 of those on goal. SWOSU finished with seven shots and was limited to just two in the second half.

Forsling ties her season high with nine saves.

Next week, GAC play continues with a road matchup at Harding on Wednesday (Sept. 27) before the Dawgs return home on Saturday (Sept. 30) to host Ouachita.
