WICHITA FALLS, Texas – SWOSU Volleyball dropped the third set to Midwestern State but looked comfortable in a 3-1 win over the Mustangs to start the 2023 season.
Scores were close in the first and fourth sets, but in total, the match featured just five lead changes with the Dawgs playing in front for a majority of the way. After a slow third set that saw SWOSU commit six attack errors in a 15-25 loss, they responded in the fourth with a wire-to-wire set victory to close things out and claim the match.
SWOSU got a combined 24 kills from
Lacy Mott (14) and
Zoey Sparks (10) and hit .218 as a team while limiting MSU to just .158 collectively.
On defense,
Samantha Kuzma led the way with five blocks while
Taryn Galt and
Hailey Smith both had their hands on three apiece.
Jada Permenter, making her college debut, finished with a team high 21 digs.
The Bulldogs will get right back to action tomorrow for day two of the Midwestern State Classic. Friday will feature two matches – first against Eastern New Mexico at 1:00 pm and then at 5:00 against Western Colorado.
