OKLAHOMA CITY – SWOSU Women's Golf had two finish inside the top-10 and placed third overall as a team at the Diffee Ford/Lincoln Invitational, representing the best team finish so far this season.
GAC foe and No. 4-ranked Henderson State won the event decisively by 17 strokes over Arkansas Fort-Smith in second. The Lady Bulldogs just narrowly missed the second spot by two strokes and finished in third but finished ahead of No. 18 Oklahoma Christian.
SWOSU was led by
Drew Dodgion and
Rebecca Lau in OKC. Dodgion carded the lowest score of any Lady Bulldog, an opening round 72 (+1), and finished three-over par for the tournament and seventh overall.
Lau posted consistent scores of 73 (+2) in both rounds – one stroke back from Dodgion and tied for eighth. She eagled hole 15 Tuesday and had three birdies in two days.
Megan Brown shaved one stroke off her first-round score and finished one stroke back from Lau and just outside the top-10 in 12th.
Both
Ashlyn Acosta and
Faustina Pergolini improved their scores from the opening round to final round. Acosta birdied three-straight holes on Tuesday on holes 13-15 as the best stretch of any SWOSU golfer in the event.
Up next for SWOSU will be the Midwest Intercollegiate Invitational held on March 20-21. The event will be hosted by Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri.
