Softball Drops Doubleheader at Arkansas Tech

CONWAY, Ark. – SWOSU Softball was on the road this weekend, traveling to Arkansas Tech. The Golden Suns claimed victory over the Bulldogs in both games of the doubleheader. Game one finished 8-1 and game two was a 5-0 defeat.

SWOSU will look to rebound in the final game of the series tomorrow at 12:00 pm.

GAME ONE – ATU 8, SWOSU 1

The offenses started slowly in the opening game. Both teams combined for five hits in the first three innings. ATU got on the board first with one run in the second inning off of a throwing error.

The Golden Suns broke the game open in the fourth though. Four hits and two runs were scored before SWOSU put up an out. They batted around in the inning and finished with a four spot to go up 5-0.

SWOSU's sole run came in the fifth from a Maddie Rahon single. Three insurance runs for Arkansas Tech in the bottom of the sixth officially put the game away.

Brianna Cryer received the loss in a six inning effort. Maddie Rahon finished 2-4 with the lone RBI.

GAME TWO – ATU 5, SWOSU 0

The second game of the day brought less offense from both sides. SWOSU's only six base runners of the game all reached a three inning span, from the second to the fourth.

ATU got their first five batters of the second inning safely on base. It started from two fielding errors by the Bulldogs. This kick started the Golden Suns offense and ended in a four run inning.

SWOSU's best chance to score came in the top of the fourth. Dani Carmo reached on a fielder's choice and took second off an error. Runners stood at first and second when Carmo was caught stealing third to end the inning.

Taryn Westbrook was on the hook for the loss after pitching six full innings.
