No. 20 Wonder Boys Take Both Ends of Saturday Doubleheader

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball was winless in two tries against No. 20 Arkansas Tech on Saturday, falling by scores of 11-7 and 9-5 to wrap up the series.

The Wonder Boys completed a sweep of the Bulldogs in the weekend series, 3-0, after also defeating the Dawgs in Friday's opener. SWOSU (14-15, 8-10 GAC) will look to rebound with a pair of midweek games this week before traveling down I40 to Southern Nazarene next weekend for more GAC play.

GAME ONE – ATU 11, SWOSU 7

The Dawgs left 10 runners on base, proving to be a detriment in the day's first game. SWOSU led 4-0 after a quick burst in the first inning and also led 6-5 after retaking the lead in the fourth inning, but Tech went on to score six of the game's final seven runs to win it.

The Wonder Boys used power to produce runs – hitting four home runs and added a triple.

Ernesto Hidrogo got the start and threw 4.0 innings. Gray Ewy picked up the loss in relief after throwing 3.0. Matt Milner pitched the final two innings, allowing one run.

SWOSU nearly matched Tech in hits and finished with 11 as a team. The second half of the lineup led the way, with the 5, 6, 7, and 9 holes all earning two hits apiece. Jackson Syring (1-4) drove in a team best three runs.

GAME TWO – ATU 9, SWOSU 5

Tech jumped on SWOSU starting pitcher Jackson Phillips (L, 4-2) in the first inning and led 3-0 after batting first. SWOSU quickly responded with another four-run first inning – the second time doing so on the day.

Four of the seven hits SWOSU had in the game came in the first inning.

Leading 4-3, both sides settled in and threw zeros on the scoreboard until Tech broke the trend in the sixth.

The Wonder Boys got four runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh for breathing room. Caleb Clines doubled in a run in the seventh, but that'd be all SWOSU would get in the form of a comeback.

Alex Rice finished 2-3 with a pair of runs scored and a walk.

Bryson Armstrong threw the final 1.2 innings in relief.
