SEARCY, Ark. – SWOSU Baseball picked up a road series victory over Harding (2-1) following a 6-3 win on Sunday over the Bisons in the deciding game three. It is the first GAC road series win of the season for the Bulldogs.
The win moves SWOSU to 13-12 on the season and 8-7 in league games. 15 games into the conference schedule, they sit in a cluster of teams tied for fourth in the standings.
The weekend in Searcy was a success for a pair of reasons. SWOSU was run ruled in the series opener and responded tremendously from there after the poor result, and, entering the weekend the Dawgs were a combined 1-8 when playing games away from Weatherford.
Sunday's game three victory was a result of good play on both offense and defense.
On the mound, SWOSU got 5.0 strong innings from Ernesto Hidrogo and another 4.0 from Grant Ewy in relief. Hidrogo scattered six hits while striking out three. He avoided big innings and allowed just two runs, one in both the third and sixth innings, to earn the win. Meanwhile Ewy struck out four and walked only one and earned his second save of the season.
No errors were committed in the game by either defense.
Offensively, SWOSU took the lead in the fifth inning with three runs to erase a 1-0 deficit. The Dawgs loaded the bases with no outs and got RBIs from Reece Burke and Emilio Trevino by simply putting the ball in play and a base hit RBI from Markus Coronado in-between those.
In the seventh, the Dawgs tacked on another run with a Jackson Syring double and a Burke RBI single immediately after.
Two more runs came in the ninth courtesy of a Burke double that started things off and an RBI single by Trevino who would come around to score later on a passed ball.
Harding hit a solo home run in the ninth but did not threaten with any other base runners.
Six SWOSU hitters had two hits in the game, led by Trevino and Burke who drove in four of the six runs and Syring who also scored a team high two runs.
The Dawgs outhit the Bisons 13-8 in the game.
SWOSU, winners of six of the last seven, will travel to Cameron for a midweek non-conference matchup before hosting league-leading Arkansas Tech next weekend in more GAC action.
