WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball combined to score 34 runs in two wins over East Central on Saturday and in doing so, earned a weekend sweep of the Tigers.
The Dawgs were winners by final scores of 15-4 and 19-3 which included a run-rule victory in the day's first game.
SWOSU (10-11, 6-6 GAC) will conclude a five-game homestand on Tuesday in a non-conference matchup with Cameron. First pitch for that game is scheduled for 2pm.
GAME ONE – SWOSU 15, ECU 4 (7 inn.)
After falling behind 4-0 midway through the fourth inning, SWOSU turned things around with a nine-run bottom of the fourth and tacked on five more in the fifth and one final run in the sixth to end things early via run rule.
Matt Milner (W, 3-3) got the start on the mound and threw 4.0 innings to earn the decision victory thanks to the shortened game. The Tigers got to him to start the game with three runs on five hits in the first inning, but Milner settled in from there. Grant Ewy threw the final three innings effectively to earn the unique save. He struck out five.
ECU pitchers walked 11 in the game and hit another three SWOSU batters. The Bulldogs took full advantage of the free baserunners to deal most of its damage. They scored 15 runs on just eight hits, three for extra bases, in the contest. Every player in the starting lineup crossed home plate except for one.
Geoff Marlow, Markus Coronado, and Brooks Red all had two hits to lead the way. Marlow drove in a team high four runs.
GAME TWO – SWOSU 19, ECU 3
11 runs in the second inning all but eliminated any ECU chances in the final game of the day. The Tigers managed to lead 2-0 and again 3-2 early, before SWOSU's 11-run bottom half of the second.
SWOSU added three runs in the third and sixth to conclude their scoring while ECU was held scoreless the rest of the way.
The lineup finished with 16 hits and was aided by five East Central fielding errors.
Marlow and Coronado again had a multi-hit game, along with Alex Rice, Emilio Trevino, and Griffin Larsen.
Jackson Phillips (W, 3-1) threw 5.0 innings and struck out five. He was pestered by the Tigers early, but settled in to deliver a quality start. He ended with five strikeouts while scattering three hits. Patrick Babcock and Jack Correll both pitched scoreless innings in relief.
