Long Ball Helps Lift Dawgs Over USAO

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball got three home runs from three different players, put up three crooked scoring numbers through the first four innings, and cruised to a 12-5 win over Science & Arts (USAO) on Tuesday in a midweek non-conference matchup.

The win moves the Bulldogs to 6-8 on the season heading into another weekend GAC series on the road at Southeastern.

The offense got contributions from nearly everyone in the game – with eight of the nine in the starting lineup finishing with at least one hit. SWOSU totaled 15 knocks as a team with five of those for extra bases including the trio of home runs.

It was the first home runs of the season for all three that hit them. Kind of. Both Emilio Trevino and Markus Coronado hit their first of the year, while Jackson Syring now technically has two thanks to a previous inside the park home run earlier in the season. Syring's left the yard on Tuesday.

Alex Rice finished a quiet 4-5 on the day from his leadoff spot.

SWOSU scored three runs in the first, got four more in the second, and three in the fourth to account for most of the damage dealt. In those three innings alone, the offense managed 12 of their 15 hits.

Three arms saw action in the contest, and each pitched three innings. Bryson Armstrong started on the bump and had two clean frames before surrendering two runs in his final inning. Philip Sanders was next and took the team through the sixth inning without allowing a run. He struck out two, did not walk any, and scattered three hits. Ernesto Hidrogo finished things out with a rocky seventh inning where the Drovers scored three runs, followed by two smooth frames once he settled in.

Pitchers benefited from a clean game in the field with no errors recorded on either side.
