ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Dawgs dropped both ends of Saturday's series concluding doubleheader with Henderson State by final scores of 6-5 and 5-3.
SWOSU finishes the first week of conference play 0-3 after being swept by the Reddies. They'll regroup and prepare to host Ouachita in a home series next weekend.
Game 1 – HSU 6, SWOSU 5
SWOSU fell behind 3-0 in the first inning and could not find enough offense to ever jump ahead of Henderson State. The Dawgs stranded nine runners on the bases and could not get the timely hit needed to turn the tables.
Matt Milner (L, 1-2) threw 4.2 innings and allowed eight hits and five earned runs. He was credited with the loss.
Ernesto Hidrogo came in for relief to pitch 3.1 innings and only allowed two hits and allowed no runs.
Caleb Clines had the hot bat, finishing 2-3 with a homerun and double.
Cade Hamilton and
Emilio Trevino also had two hits each.
Game 2 – HSU 5, SWOSU 3
Jackson Phillips (L, 1-1) provided the Dawgs with three innings in his start on the mound, striking out five and allowing four hits and four runs – three of those earned.
Bryson Armstrong came in for relief and also pitched three innings. He allowed one hit and one unearned run.
Caleb Clines had another productive game going 2-2 with an RBI.
Alex Rice also contributed with a 2-4 showing at the plate.
Three SWOSU errors translated into three runs for the Reddies which the SWOSU offense could not make up.
