SEARCY, Ark. – SWOSU dropped the first game of this weekend's Arkansas trip to Harding, 68-48. Harding was locked in defensively all night and didn't allow much to the Lady Dawgs. This is the second lowest scoring output of the season, the lowest being the first matchup with Harding in Weatherford.
SWOSU moves to 7-17 and 7-12 in the GAC. This keeps them in the hunt for a GAC Tournament berth. They will need some timely wins down the stretch and for teams like East Central and Southern Arkansas to lose. They stay in Arkansas for their next one against Arkansas Tech on Saturday at 1 pm.
Harding was all over SWOSU on the defensive end from the jump. SWOSU had four turnovers in the first quarter and just three made field goals. The second quarter brought more of the same. The Lady Bisons held SWOSU to just 18 points and 24% shooting in the first half.
The Lady Bulldogs showed a bit of fight in the third quarter. While their offensive output was static, they buckled down on the other end of the floor. Harding shot just 3-11 and scored nine points in the 10 minutes. SWOSU went into the fourth with a bit of momentum after winning the third.
Harding didn't allow SWOSU to do anything with this momentum though, scoring five quick points coming out of the stoppage. The Lady Bulldogs would trade baskets with them throughout the quarter, but couldn't get the stops needed to attempt a comeback. The lead would balloon to as much as 23 points in the later stages of the game.
Morgan Smith led the way with 10 points, all coming in the second half.
Layni Zinn scored nine points and grabbed four rebounds.
JaMaya Johnson had a career high eight points in her 19 minutes off the bench as well.
