SEARCY, Ark. –
In a game of runs, SWOSU hung on to the lead in the second half to win 75-67 over Harding on Thursday night in the first of two contests this weekend in Arkansas.
SWOSU started off hot against the Bisons with a 12-4 scoring run in the first four minutes of the game, but Harding would not go away and eventually used a 16-1 run later in the half put them ahead 36-34 at the break.
SWOSU used a 7-0 run to start off the second half to set the tone for the rest of the contest. The Dawgs finished strong, staying in front of the Bisons for the final 15 minutes of the game.
The Dawgs locked down on defense and capitalized on Harding's turnovers, earning 18 points off turnovers in the contest along with being prominent on the offensive boards with 12 rebounds for 13 second chance points.
In the end SWOSU shot a reasonable 31% from three-point land while holding Harding to a low 20% for the game and only 10% for the second half.
SWOSU was led by
DeAngelo Adkins with a commanding 16 points followed by
Kamden Gipson and
Ben Smith who scored 14 points each and
Chris Braggs, Jr. with a respectful 10.
The Dawgs improved their record to 12-13 on the year and 8-11 in conference, marking the first of two pivotal games this weekend with postseason implications on the line. SWOSU will travel to Arkansas Tech on Saturday for a 3pm contest.
