Lady Dawgs Fall in Alva

ALVA, Okla. – SWOSU women's basketball took the trek up to Alva for a rivalry matchup with Northwestern Oklahoma State Monday night. They fell 88-55, splitting the season series 1-1 with Northwestern. The Lady Rangers shot the lights out and did most of their damage in the paint.

This drops SWOSU to 7-16 and 7-11 in the GAC. They will head back to Arkansas this weekend for a couple of late season games. The first contest is at Harding on Thursday at 5:30 pm.

Northwestern got everything they wanted inside tonight. Whether it was drives, lob passes to the post, or offensive boards, they got the ball to the paint. The Lady Rangers scored 56 points in the paint and shot 60.3% from the field for the game.

The first half was tightly contested despite all this. It saw seven ties and six lead changes throughout the twenty minutes. Shooting 48% in the half helped to keep SWOSU in the game. A six-point differential was all the Lady Bulldogs faced when they took the intermission.

The third quarter saw Northwestern widen the gap. The Rangers crowd was rocking and they grabbed that momentum the whole half. They won the quarter 31-13 to create an insurmountable lead. They held SWOSU to 27% shooting in the second half, which made sure the Lady Dawgs couldn't attempt a comeback.

Averi Zinn had a team high 15 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Layni Zinn added nine points. Morgan Smith threw in eight points as well.
