Softball Goes Winless in Saturday Doubleheader

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – SWOSU Softball went winless in two chances on Saturday after dropping a pair of games in doubleheader fashion, first to Rockhurst in a rematch of Friday's marathon matchup and finally to Fort Hays State to close out the day.

The Bulldogs move to 2-5 on the season and will play another doubleheader tomorrow against Midwestern State and Cameron, beginning at 3:00 pm.

GAME ONE – Rockhurst 8, SWOSU 0 (5 inn.)

The Hawks scored in every inning but the fourth and initiated the eight-run rule after five innings to end things early. In doing so, they got one back from the Dawgs who got the better of them in extra innings nearly just 12 hours prior.

Walks in the second inning gave the Dawgs issues. SWOSU pitchers issues four consecutive walks to start the inning and Rockhurst cashed in four runs as a result. Trailing 6-0, RU added single runs in the third and fifth innings to end it.

Cierah Jones represented the only hit for the offense, a single in the fourth.

Brianna Cryer (L, 1-2) was handed the loss after being relieved in the second inning by Makale Floyd who threw the rest of the way.

GAME TWO – Fort Hays State 12, SWOSU 0 (5 inn.)

The offense couldn't get anything going in game two either. SWOSU was held to two hits, one apiece from Skye Tilley and Skyla McPhillips, while enduring 15 from Fort Hays.

The deficit was a manageable 5-0 in the fifth before seven more runs by the Tigers put the game into run-rule territory. SWOSU got two quick outs before FHSU scored all seven of the runs on seven consecutive hits with two outs.

Taryn Westbrook (L, 0-3) got the start in the circle and was relieved late in the fifth by Kaylee Barkley.
