SWOSU Grinds Out a Win Against Ouachita

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – On January 12, SWOSU was defeated by Ouachita 68-69 in Arkadelphia. On Saturday, SWOSU took down Ouachita with the same exact score of 69-68 in the Pioneer Cellular Event Center. It was a resilient and hard-fought win for the Dawgs, seeing a double digit second half lead dwindle and still stay focused to hold onto the game.

SWOSU improves to 11-12 and 7-10 in the GAC. They must quickly prepare for a three-game slate next week as it starts on Monday night at rival Northwestern Oklahoma State at 5:30 pm.

This one was a slugfest the entire game, especially in the first half. The largest difference was 10 points in favor of SWOSU but it was single digits for almost the entire half. SWOSU jumped out to a 16-6 lead before a 14-3 Ouachita run gave them their first lead since it was 2-0. They traded possession of the lead for the last five minutes of the half until it ended SWOSU up two.

In the second half it was almost the same story. SWOSU went on a 23-9 run early to put a decent 13-point cushion between them and the Tigers. Ouachita got hot and went on a 15-4 run right after that. This run included shooting 6-8 and 3-4 from three for OBU. A layup gave Ouachita a 68-66 lead with 1:59 left, little did they know it was their last score of the game. The Bulldogs always sturdy defense and Chris Braggs, Jr. willing to put his body on the line is to thank for the Tigers getting shutout in the final two minutes. Braggs also scored what would be the game winning layup with 1:02 left.

Ben Smith looked like a Redwood in the paint tonight, putting up 27 points and grabbing five rebounds. DeAngelo Adkins had 13 points and six rebounds. GAC steals leader Nate Goodlow came away with four steals in this one as well.
