Women’s Basketball Closes Out Non-Con with 67-61 Win

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Women's Basketball grinded out a 67-61 victory over Science & Arts of Oklahoma (USAO) on Monday evening in the final non-conference matchup of the season.
 
The win pushes SWOSU's win streak to three games heading into Saturday's continued conference action. The Lady Bulldogs, now 5-3 on the season, have two games the next two Saturdays before Christmas Break.
 
Monday night featured seven lead changes and four ties. USAO's final lead came in the closing minute of the third quarter before an Averi Zinn isolation layup put SWOSU back on top just as the quarter ended. From there, the Lady Bulldogs led by as many as eight in the fourth quarter and hung on to earn the win.
 
SWOSU led by one point entering the fourth quarter and went on to outscore the Drovers 18-13 the rest of the way after shooting 2-of-5 from the three-point line and knocking down all six of their foul shots.
 
The Lady Bulldogs built a six-point lead by halftime thanks to a 48% shooting mark in the first half and five three-point makes. SWOSU held USAO without a three-point shot in the game's first 20 minutes and led 35-29 at the half.
 
A 21% shooting mark by the Dawgs in the third quarter allowed the Drovers to gain the edge and remain in the game heading into the fourth. Five of SWOSU's 14 turnovers came in the third period. Despite holding USAO to 0-of-their-first-8 after halftime, the visitors managed to finish the quarter 6-for-11 which included three deep balls.
 
Libbi Zinn scored nine of her 12 points in the final quarter to help lift SWOSU to the win. Libbi with a new season high, and her sister Averi, combined for 27 on the night. Mason Jones chipped in 11.
 
SWOSU was outrebounded 39-33 in the game but won the turnover battle 19-14.
 
The offense connected on nine three-point shots on the night – the third highest total of the season. SWOSU's 16 assists also marks a new season high.
 
SWOSU gets to rest up the remainder of the week in preparation for Saturday's contest at East Central. That game is a late tipoff, scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start in Ada.
