SHAWNEE, Okla. – SWOSU soccer had seven members named to All-Great American Conference teams at the 2023 women's soccer awards banquet, highlighted by freshman
Elvira Gunnarsson who took home Newcomer of the Year.
Gunnarsson, from Kristianstad, Sweden, made an immediate impact for the Bulldogs this year by leading SWOSU with five goals and 11 points. This is the second straight season a SWOSU freshman has won GAC Newcomer of the Year. She was also placed on the All-GAC Second Team.
Micaella Swain and
Claire Torry represented the Bulldogs as First Team All-GAC selections. Swain garners first team honors for the second time in her career, while Torry is placed there for the first time. Both seniors have received all-conference nods four times as Bulldogs.
Sola Tsuruta,
Julie Andersen, and
Tianna Watkins joined Gunnarsson as members of the Second Team.
Ruth Vasquez rounded out SWOSU's athletic honors as an All-GAC Honorable Mention.
Sola Tsuruta and
Summer Bass were named two of the seven GAC Distinguished Scholar Student-Athletes.
SWOSU has now had at least seven members named to all-conference teams for nine straight seasons.
Action for the Bulldogs in the GAC Tournament begins tomorrow at 3:00 pm against Oklahoma Baptist in Shawnee.
