WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Volleyball collected a 3-0 sweep of East Central on Thursday in the second to last home match of the season. The win completes the regular season sweep of the Tigers after the two sides went all five in Ada over a month ago.
The Bulldogs held ECU to negatives in the hitting category – the second time that's been done in three games after they also managed that milestone against UAM last week. The Tiger's 22 errors were the second most a SWOSU opponent has posted in a three-set match this season.
SWOSU claimed the match with set scores of 25-12, 25-21, and 25-20. After a dominant opening set, the scoring margins tightened up but still saw the Dawgs in control nearly the whole way through.
In set two, things were tied 19-19 until a four-point run by SWOSU gave breathing room. A similar theme occurred in the third set, just earlier. SWOSU led 12-11 before another four-point surge distanced the two sides and gave SWOSU the cushion needed to inch to victory.
SWOSU's hitting percentage showed .142 for the night. They were led by Lacy Mott (.243) who consistently added kills totals of 5, 4, and 5 in the three sets respectively to finish with a game high 14 and lead all players.
Terez Chavez (15) and Cameron Turner (11) finished with a combined 26 assists.
On defense, Mott had a team high 19 digs followed by Jada Permenter's 18. Both teams had 7.0 team blocks. The Zoey Sparks and Hailey Smith duo combined for eight assisted on the night.
SWOSU moves to 9-3 in the GAC and 15-7 overall on the season. They will play the next three matches away from Weatherford before returning for the regular season finale against Northwestern on November 9. The next match will be Tuesday (Oct. 31) on the road at Southeastern.
