de Sancy Earns GAC Offensive Player of the Week

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Philippine de Sancy, a freshman from SWOSU Soccer, was just named the Great American Conference Offensive Player of the Week after her performance against Northwestern Oklahoma State last Wednesday.

She is the first Bulldog to win any of the three weekly conference honors (offense, defense, goalkeeper) this season. SWOSU had eight players of the week a year ago including two on offense.

de Sancy (Issou, France) provided the game-tying and game-winning goals in the first half against the Rangers as a reserve. SWOSU fell behind 1-0 before de Sancy scored her first two goals of the season and as a Bulldog. The team went on to defeat Northwestern 4-1 in their highest scoring match of 2023.

With 14 minutes to play before halftime, de Sancy took a soft short pass in rhythm from the top of the box and delivered a line drive off her right foot to the upper left corner of the goal for the equalizer. Then, with seconds ticking down before halftime, de Sancy created her own shot from inside the box following a pass – placing the ball in nearly the exact spot as her first goal, this time off her left foot.

de Sancy and the Dawgs host Harding on Wednesday (Oct. 18) and travel to Ouachita on Saturday (Oct. 21) for this week's action. With five games remaining in the regular season, SWOSU remains in a tight group of teams battling for postseason contention.
