Late Goal Upends SWOSU

BETHANY, Okla. – SWOSU soccer was on the road for a Great American Conference matchup against Southern Nazarene on Saturday night. The Crimson Storm scored the first goal of the game with under three minutes left to steal a win, 1-0.

SWOSU's 2023 record goes to 2-8-3. They will be back at home to host the Bisons of Harding at 3 pm on Wednesday.

The first half was all SWOSU. They paced the Crimson Storm in every offensive metric and had multiple good looks at the goal, but weren't able to connect. They got up 12 shots, yet the SNU goalkeeper saved seven of those shots in the first 45 minutes. The Dawgs' defense also kept the SNU offense out of striking distance, only allowing two shots before halftime.

The latter half brought a lot of physicality. Both teams combined for two red cards and three yellow cards all in the second half. After the two red cards, the teams competed with only 10 for the rest of the game. This defensive battle was at a stalemate until the 87' when a SNU attacker got free on from the right side of the box and hammered a shot off the crossbar past Amelia Forsling for the game winner.

SWOSU was led by Hannah Guiterrez and Elvira Gunnarsson, who both had three shots and two shots on goal apiece.
