RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – SWOSU Men's Basketball has been slotted for an 11th place finish in the annual Great American Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, announced Thursday by the league office.
Last season, SWOSU finished 12-16 overall and narrowly missed the postseason cutoff after finishing ninth in the league with an 8-14 record in league play. The Bulldogs have begun a new era with the hiring of new head coach
Brett Weiberg at the end of the summer following the resignation of Terry Evans.
10 familiar faces remain on the team from a year ago, including leading scorer and All-GAC selection
Ben Smith who averaged 15.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, and
Nate Goodlow whose 1.9 steals per game led the conference.
Eight newcomers – three freshman and five transfers – join on to complete the 18-man roster.
The season gets underway November 10 in Emporia, Kansas where SWOSU will face Fort Hays State and Emporia State in back-to-back days as part of the GAC/MIAA Challenge. The first chance to catch the Dawgs in Weatherford will come November 21 when Cameron comes to town. Conference play begins nearly one week later, Nov. 30, against Oklahoma Baptist.
