SWOSU Volleyball Survives Scare at Cameron

LAWTON, Okla. – SWOSU Volleyball took a break from GAC action on Tuesday when they traveled to Lawton to face Cameron from the Lone Star Conference. The Bulldogs survived with yet another fifth-set victory and have now played in four straight five-set matches spanning seven days in total.

SWOSU (11-5 overall) is now 6-2 in matches that go the distance in 2023. They'll jump right back into another busy week when they get ready to host Arkansas Tech and league-leading Harding on Thursday and Friday.

The Dawgs let a tight first set get out of reach late after the Aggies used a late 5-0 run to tie and take the lead. Set one went to Cameron, 25-21.

SWOSU settled in and controlled the second set but allowed Cameron to make things interesting late. With set point in hand at 24-17, the Aggies rattled six straight points before finally getting closed out. Three of SWOSU's five errors in the frame came during that spurt. Set two Dawgs, 25-22.

The third set was critical looking back, and SWOSU did just enough to make it go their way. The Dawgs found themselves trailing 23-21 before finally stepping up. SWOSU got to set point first, before both sides battled for a stint until the Bulldogs were able to put it away. Set three Dawgs, in bonus time and without facing a set point, 28-26.

In set four, SWOSU hit a mere .026 – their lowest mark of the night – and because of that, played from behind the entire way through. 2-2, headed to the fifth.

For the final 15 points, the visiting Dawgs finally put the match to bed. SWOSU hit a game high .296 in the fifth with just two errors and led wire-to-wire for an eventual 15-10 victory.

Cameron outhit the Dawgs on the night .184-.170 behind the individual effort of Aggie sophomore Paris Patterson who finished with a career high 24 kills on .333 hitting.

SWOSU was led by Lacy Mott who finished with 17 kills and 14 digs. Maicee Morgan added 12 kills, which ties her season best.

At the net, the defense finished with 10 blocks as a team. Cameron had nine. It's SWOSU's eighth time this season posting double-digit blocks.

Jada Permenter led the team with 19 digs at Libero. Setter duo Cameron Turner (22) and Terez Chavez (19) combined for 41 assists.
