WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Men's Basketball opened the 2023 portion of their schedule with a 78-65 victory over Arkansas Monticello on Thursday night. The Bulldogs led for 38 of the game's 40 minutes and grew a lead to as many as 22 points in the second half.

Every Bulldog who entered the game scored a basket – all 10 – led by Kamden Gipson and Jalen Johnson who both finished with 16 points.

The GAC's second best offensive rebounding team needed only three tonight thanks to a solid offensive performance. SWOSU shot over 50% from the field in both halves in what ended up being their highest shooting percentage of the season, 52.9%.

Meanwhile on defense, the Dawgs held UAM to 33% shooting the first half and under 40% for the game at 37.5%.

SWOSU led 38-30 at the break and opened the second half in style with a 14-2 run. That start gave them all the cushion they'd need, and they cruised to victory from there. The Weevils did manage to cut the margin down to 10 points with just over three minutes to play, but a Johnson made three-point shot would all but end UAM's already slim chances.

The win moves the Dawgs to 6-5 on the season and gives them their second conference win. They have a chance to get back even in conference play Saturday when they host Southern Arkansas for a 3pm tipoff. SAU is winners of their last five games and just beat Northwestern at the buzzer tonight in Alva.
