SWOSU Win Streak Snapped By Arkansas Tech

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Arkansas Tech defeated the SWOSU Lady Bulldogs on Thursday night, 79-72. The Lady Bulldogs attempted 13 more shots than the Golden Suns, but didn't shoot over 40% in any quarter and shot sub 30% in two of the four quarters in the game. These shooting woes doomed any chance SWOSU had.

SWOSU was defeated due to a shooting slump that seemed to last the entire night. They didn't come out of the gate strong, going just 12-39 in the first half. This wasn't all their fault, as the pace of the game was influenced by some heavy whistles. Both teams accumulated 22 personal fouls across the 40 minutes, which is the most combined fouls for a SWOSU game this season. They could just never find their footing and didn't shoot much better in the second half.

SWOSU drops to 6-11 overall and 6-6 in the GAC. They will end their homestand with a tough test. They take on Harding at 1:00 pm on Saturday in the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.

After 18 seconds, the score was 2-0 in favor of SWOSU. That would be the only lead the Lady Bulldogs acquired during the game. Even with this, the Lady Bulldogs stayed close behind. The biggest point differential in a quarter was three points. It was not a blowout by any measure, but every time SWOSU would start hitting shots, so would ATU. They kept just far enough ahead to halt the Lady Bulldogs from taking the advantage.

Morgan Smith had a team high 20 points to go along with five rebounds. Shamica Smith notched another double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Macy Gore scored 16 points and went 4-9 from behind the arc.

The Golden Suns had 21 turnovers to SWOSU's 14, but ATU outscored SWOSU in points off turnovers 20-19. SWOSU just couldn't turn those Arkansas Tech mistakes into points of their own in this one. ATU also outrebounded SWOSU 48-38.

SWOSU ended the game shooting 32.4% (23-71) from the field and 32.3% (10-31) from three. Arkansas Tech was an even 50% (29-58) from the field and 10% (1-10) from three.
