Volleyball Finishes LCU Chap Classic on Top; Wins in Five vs UTPB

LUBBOCK, Texas – SWOSU Volleyball will return to Weatherford on a high note following a thrilling five-set victory over Texas-Permian Basin in the final game of the LCU Chap Classic.

After winning the opening set, SWOSU dropped the next two including a 25-12 thumping in the third set that put them down 2-1 in the match. With their backs against the wall, the team dug deep and finished strong by winning the fourth set and forcing a deciding fifth.

Tied 9-9 in the final set, Maicee Morgan collected back-to-back kills before also assisting on a block for a quick 3-0 spurt. Now 12-9, SWOSU weathered one final push by UTPB before closing it out 15-11.

Lacy Mott led the way for the Bulldogs, earning a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs. Morgan and Samantha Kuzma added 11 kills each. Kuzma also had her hand in six assisted blocks on the night – a team high.

Offensively, SWOSU hit .179 as a team compared to UTPB's .162.

Defensively, SWOSU tallied 18 assisted blocks and one solo from Kuzma.

The Bulldogs played five matches in three days and finished 2-3 overall on the road trip.

Hours prior on Saturday, the Dawgs dropped a 3-0 match to the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs to split their action on the day.

SWOSU will now set its sights on conference play after back-to-back tournament weekends to start the season. The Dawgs will host East Central on Tuesday, September 6 at 7pm to kick of the GAC schedule. The match is SWOSU's first home game of the season.
