Reverse Sweep Complete: Volleyball Wins in Home Opener

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Volleyball chose the difficult route to earn the win against East Central in their home opener on Tuesday, but they flipped a switch following the conclusion of the second set that snowballed into unstoppable momentum the rest of the way.

The Bulldogs went on to defeat the Tigers 3-2 in comeback fashion in a match that featured two different looking SWOSU teams.

Out of the gate, SWOSU looked lethargic and dropped the first two sets which included a steep and decisive 25-14 loss in the second. Then, there was almost not a fourth set after the Bulldogs needed extra points to escape the third set with a 30-28 victory despite being in control for much of the set.

But following the third set the momentum shifted and the Dawgs knew they had life. SWOSU returned the favor in the form of a 25-14 dominate set-four victory and it propelled them strong into the fifth set where they led nearly the entire way.

Zoey Sparks and Samantha Kuzma were the catalysts. Sparks ended with a season best 17 kills with 10 of those coming in the match's final three frames. She was also efficient with a hot .438 hitting percentage. Kuzma got in on the action late but found success in the middle with six of her eight kills coming in the fourth and fifth sets.

Lacy Mott added 14 kills and a team high 22 digs.

SWOSU hit just .137 as a team through the first three sets, compared to .370 in the final two.

SWOSU dished out nine service aces, compared to six from ECU.

East Central was held to .169 hitting as a team which included a flat .000 in the fifth and final set.

After back-to-back weeks of tournaments and now the conference opener early in the week, SWOSU will get to recover and will not play again until next Tuesday (9/13) on the road against Southeastern.
