Game Preview
  • SWOSU Football will look to bounce back against Oklahoma Baptist this Saturday after suffering a 58-48 defeat at the hands of Southeastern last weekend
  • The Bulldogs have already responded well to a loss once this season. SWOSU fell in the season opener to Henderson State before rebounding with a win the following week against Southern Arkansas. Saturday's matchup against the Bison will be setup for the Dawgs to repeat that same trend
  • Meanwhile, Oklahoma Baptist will be trying to use their 31-23 win over Northwestern last week as a catalyst to jump start their season after starting the year 0-2
  • OBU has won their last 17 matchups against teams in Oklahoma. SWOSU will look to finally break that streak come Saturday
  • SWOSU beat OBU the first two times the teams played each other in program history back in 2015 and 2016, but are 0-4 since

The Opponent - Oklahoma Baptist
  • Oklahoma Baptist entered 2022 picked fifth in the GAC Coaches Poll following a historic 2021 season where the Bison finished 8-4 with a berth (and win) in the Fun Town RV Heritage Bowl
  • OBU featured a potent offense a year ago but graduated many key names from that team including three All-Americans at QB, RB, and WR. This season, the Bison currently sit 10th in scoring offense (26.7ppg) 9th in rushing (149ypg) and 4th in passing (261.3ypg) around the GAC
  • The Bison have thrown the ball the second most times in the league through three games, 124, and are being led at WR by returning All-American Keilahn Harris and at QB by first-year starter Dayton Wolfe
  • Defensively, OBU leads the GAC in passing defense (130.3ypg) but has allowed 35 ppg this season

SWOSU Offensive  Notes
  • In the small sample size of the young season, when SWOSU has jumped out to a lead they have won the game. The Bulldogs are 1-0 when scoring first, and 0-2 when allowing the first score of the game
  • The Bulldogs scored the most points of the season last weekend against Southeastern by doubling their previous best (24 pts vs SAU; 48 pts vs SE)
  • Quarterback Tylan Morton threw his first interceptions of the season in week three. Morton had gone 81 attempts without a pick but ended up throwing three in the first half against the Savage Storm. He rebounded in the second half with three TD passes and zero turnovers
  • RB Troy Henderson got the most action of anyone lined up next to Morton. He finished with a team high 12 carries for 89 yards which included a season long 43-yard TD run in the first quarter. He later added a touchdown catch to finish with two scores on the night
  • After running a combined 29 times in the first two games, Morton was not as mobile against SE with just three rushes for one yard
  • After falling down 17-0, SWOSU's WRs got in on the action last Saturday. Deshon Moreaux and Cameron Hairston combined for just four catches but for 177 yards between the two of them
  • Moreaux, Isreal Watson, and Jacob Karsak all caught touchdown passes for the second consecutive game
  • SWOSU ranks last in the GAC in rushing yards, but second in passing
  • SWOSU scores 83% of the time in the redzone, but has had to settle for four field goals out of the 10 scores they've had (10-14; 83%)

SWOSU Defensive Notes
  • SWOSU now has four different players with one interception this season after Ashton Hamby became the latest Bulldog to pick off a pass last weekend
  • As a unit, the Dawgs rank eighth in the GAC in both rushing (240ypg) and passing (238ypg) defense
  • DB Keldric Martin currently leads the league in tackles with 26 total (13s-13a)
  • LB Christian Toeleiu is tied for sixth with his 23 tackles (9s-14a)
  • After a sack in each of the first two games, DL Courtney Ledyard was held without one against SE
  • Against Southeastern, SWOSU threw for five touchdowns but also allowed five to be thrown on them. Five marks the highest number of passing touchdowns in a single GAC game this season
  • In SWOSU's win against SAU, they held the Muleriders to 4.8 yards per play in the game. In SWOSU's two losses so far this season, they have averaged 8.8 yards per play
  • The Bulldogs have allowed a GAC high 19 red zone trips this season but have prevented the opposition from scoring in five of those trips marking the most stops of any team in the league. Of those 5 stops, two have come from interceptions and one on turnover on downs

SWOSU Special Teams Notes
  • Jaren Van Winkle is a perfect 4-4 on field goals this season. He is one of only three kickers in the league still perfect and that has made at least three kicks. He is the only kicker to still be perfect with four.
  • Last week, SWOSU took advantage of a pair of special teams plays that helped make an impact. The Dawgs recovered a muffed punt that led to a score and were the beneficiary of a bad snap that led to a safety
  • So far through three games, all three contests SWOSU has been in have had scoring implications come from special teams.
    • vs HSU- Jalen Lampley 65-yard punt return for TD
    • vs SAU- 2 SWOSU muffed punts, bad FG snap by SWOSU resulting in turnover on downs
    • vs SE- blocked punt for a TD by SE, blocked PAT for 2 pts for SWOSU, bad punt snap for safety for SWOSU, muffed SE punt
