SHAWNEE, Okla. – SWOSU Volleyball took a set off the 2021 defending GAC Champions but fell 3-1 in Tuesday night's matchup with Oklahoma Baptist.
The loss drops the Bulldogs back to an even 2-2 in league play and 5-8 on the season.
After being held to just 15 points in the opening set, SWOSU responded with a set victory of their own. In that second set, the Dawgs would build a lead only to have OBU erase it with a small run of their own. That trend ended at the 15-14 mark when SWOSU scored five of the next six points to take control one final time.
With the match tied 1-1, OBU took back control of the momentum with wins in the next two sets to end it. The Bulldogs made the third set interesting towards the end but inevitably fell.
They did not go down quietly in the fourth either by shadowing the Lady Bison nearly the entire set. Though it was close, SWOSU could not quite conjure enough offense to push the margin in their favor.
Zoey Sparks (14) and Samantha Kuzma (12) had success in the middle and led the way with 26 kills combined on efficient hitting.
The Dawgs were outhit in every set except for the second and finished at .164 as a team compared to OBU's .252. SWOSU also committed 27 errors, while OBU had just 14.
SWOSU will look to rebound on Friday when they play host to rival Northwestern. First serve for that match is scheduled for 7pm from inside the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
